AssistCamp docs are a separate content type in WordPress. SEO plugins treat each content type separately, so your docs need to be switched on in your SEO plugin before they get proper titles, meta descriptions, and sitemap entries.
Why you see a notice from your SEO plugin
After activating AssistCamp, Rank Math or a similar plugin may show a notice saying it has detected a new content type. This is expected. The notice is telling you that AssistCamp has registered its own content type and that your SEO plugin now has settings for it that you have not reviewed yet.
You can dismiss the notice, but do the setup below first.
Why this matters more for documentation than for blog posts
Documentation is what people search for when they already have a problem. Those searches are specific and high intent, and documentation pages often rank well because they answer a narrow question directly. Leaving your docs out of your sitemap means search engines discover them slowly or not at all.
The same applies to AI assistants. Tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Google’s AI answers increasingly sit between your users and your documentation. If your docs are not indexed and crawlable, those tools cannot find them, and your users get a guess instead of your actual answer.
Setting up Rank Math
- Go to Rank Math SEO > Titles & Meta.
- Find the section for the AssistCamp documentation content type in the list on the left.
- Confirm it is set to appear in search results (not set to noindex).
- Set a title format and a description format if you want something different from the default.
- Save your changes.
- Go to Rank Math SEO > Sitemap Settings.
- Find the AssistCamp documentation content type and confirm it is included in your sitemap.
- Save your changes.
Setting up Yoast SEO
- Go to Yoast SEO > Settings.
- Open the Content types section.
- Find the AssistCamp documentation content type.
- Set Show in search results to on. This also adds it to your sitemap.
- Save your changes.
Confirming it worked
Open yoursite.com/sitemap_index.xml (Yoast) or yoursite.com/sitemap_index.xml (Rank Math) in your browser and look for a sitemap covering your docs. Open it and confirm your published docs are listed.
Writing docs that both search engines and AI assistants can use
- Answer the question in the first paragraph. Do not build up to it. Both search engines and AI tools favour a direct answer near the top.
- Use one doc per question. A doc that answers one question clearly gets quoted. A doc that answers six questions gets skipped.
- Use descriptive headings. Headings phrased the way a reader would ask the question make each section findable on its own.
- Write self contained sections. Avoid “as mentioned above”. A section that only makes sense after reading the whole page cannot be quoted in isolation.
- Name things in full. Write “AssistCamp settings screen”, not “the settings screen”, so the meaning survives when a section is read on its own.
- Keep facts current. Wrong documentation that is well indexed spreads faster than no documentation.
